The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) participated in the UP Strategic Conference on Sustainable Development held from 18–20 November 2025 at Ibis Styles Manila Araneta City, Cubao, Quezon City. The conference was organized by the University of the Philippines–Centre International de Formation des Autorités et Leaders Philippines (UP-CIFAL Philippines), one of 33 global CIFAL centers affiliated with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
With the theme “Sustainable Development as a Nexus of Transformation,” the event served as a venue to share UP’s collective contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthen the pursuit of sustainable development across the System.
The UPV delegation was led by Chancellor Dr. Clement Camposano, together with Dr. Alice Joan Ferrer, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Dr. Rhodella Ibabao, Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development; Dr. Rodelio Subade, Dean of the Graduate School; Prof. Pepito Fernandez, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Asst. Prof. Steve Janagap, UPV Quality Assurance (QA) Officer and Assistant to the Chancellor for SDGs and University Rankings; Ms. Roeyna May Famisaran, QA staff and technical staff member for SDGs; and Mr. Aljo Benedicto, University Student Council representative.
UPV actively participated in the conference. Subade was one of the presenters for the conference. His presentation was entitled, “Towards Enhanced University Role in pursuing SDGs: UPV’s trajectory through graduate studies,” mainly discussing UPV’s newest program offering under the Graduate School, the Master of Science in Sustainability. Meanwhile, Fernandez served as one of the moderators and reactors.
Participants were also asked to provide comments and recommendations for the working framework and roadmap of UP-CIFAL. The inputs of all CUs were consolidated to further strengthen and refine the framework that will guide UP System’s sustainability initiatives in the future.
